What is Organics PLUS?

Nutri-Lawn’s approach to organic lawn care is unique and revolutionary. We focus on creating a healthy environment in which your family and your landscaping will thrive. Unlike other organic programs, we use a toolbox approach to creating this healthy environment. Our toolbox approach allows our turf experts to give your lawn what it needs, rather than what is dictated in a rigid schedule. Our toolbox contains a variety of products like seaweed/kelp extracts, natural composts, organic type fertilizers and beet or corn extracts, to name a few.
It’s much more than just fertilizer, it’s a concept that is aimed at creating a healthy world for you to live in, with peace of mind.

How Do the Organics Plus Programs Work?

Our Organics Plus programs are designed to develop thick, healthy, green lawns using organic and organic based products. No synthetic, man-made pesticides are used. Our focus is on creating healthy lawns using an integrated approach to turf management.

Managing weeds in a lawn without the use of synthetic pesticides requires integrating a variety of strategies. The more strategies that are used to encourage healthy turf and discourge weeds, the better the results.

Many of the strategies listed below are included in our Organics Plus programs, or offered as additional services.

Education
First, we educate our customers on the proper watering and cutting techniques that encourage turfgrass and discourge weeds. For example, by allowing the top half inch of topsoil to dry out between waterings, any newly germinated weed seeds will die. Overwatering, or watering daily will encourage the establishment of weeds.

Balanced Diet
Then we ensure that the lawn is fertillized in a timely and balanced fashion. Organic and organic based fertilizers are used to ensure a robust and healthy lawn. We modify our fertilizers throughout the growing season, as well as in response to seasonal weather conditions, in order to achieve the healthiest lawn possible.

Aeration
Soil compaction and excessive thatch are corrected with soil aeration. Aeration is essential to develop a deep, healthy roots, which in turn results in a lawn capable of out-competing the weeds.

Biostimulants
Kelp biostimulants are applied to encourage strong root growth and enhance summer drought tolerance.

Overseeding
We recommend that thin, weak lawns that have bare patches be slit seeded or overseeded with some new, robust cultivars of turfgrass. This will ensure that turfgrass grows in those bare patches, and not weeds.

Organics Plus Topdressing
We recommend that lawns with poor soil (excessive clay or sand) receive an Organics Plus Topdressing application to add organic matter and address potential micro-nutrient deficiencies.Our topdressing is also and excellent product to use in combination with slitseeding or overseeding.

Organic Weed Management
Weeds are managed by first ensuring that the lawn and the soil are healthy. Our goal is to create an environment that is more conducive to grass than weeds. We also use registered non-selective weed management products to further reduce weed populations from your property. Natural Insect Controls
The turfgrass insect pests like European Chafer (white grub) and leatherjackets can be managed with preventative applications of predatory nematodes. These nematodes only feed on insect larvae, and are naturally occurring. They reduce the insect pest population so that the lawn can tolerate the feeding from the few remaining grubs. Timing, weather and application methods are critical for success.
